Update on recent issue

The seller of the unauthorized fanzine of Without A Trace responded very quickly to my request and has taken the auction down. She had purchased the item with a group of other fanzines at MediaWest in May 2009 and assumed it was an actual fanzine.

I sincerely appreciate her rapid and gracious response, however, my journal will remain friends only until my trust in fandom repairs itself. My thanks to everyone who has contacted me during this crisis of faith, I do love you all.

FYI: my friending policy is thus - if you add me to your friends list, I will friend you in return. If you have friended me and I have not returned the favor, send me an e-mail at rosewood@inreach.com and I will rectify the situation. If you are already on my friends list, I am not deleting anyone but thank you profusely for checking in today.

Hugs to all!

Ace

I am so glad that she was quick in getting back to you, and that she took the auction down. I could not believe that had happened. I can totally understand why she would assume it was an actual fanzine. I just read about it, and am glad to see this update.

*hugs and hugs*

I glad this was resolved so quickly. I'm only sorry it happened in the first place. *hugs*

I'm happy the auction was taken down at your request. It sounds like the seller made a legitimate mistake.

I have to wonder about whoever sold her the zine to start with, though.

*Hugs* back. I am pleased it worked in you favor, but yeah I totally get the violated creepiness of it being created in the 1st place. I'm hoping something shakes free that you learn the true path from where it originated...

Again lots of *Hugs*

I'm so sorry that this happened to you, but I'm glad things were resolved with the seller fairly quickly.

Glad to hear this seller is an 'ethical' one.

I'd like to know who the hell was selling your zine at Mediawest and if it was a one-of. And I still don't like the person who was selling on eBay, her prices are a disgrace. She's selling used zines for far more than she ever paid for them, making a huge profit on other fan's work. I don't find her ethical at all and do not trust her easy explanation.

hey there.we were just thinking about you the other week. I am sorry this happened. like others I'd love to find out if this was a one off or if there is some fanzine publisher out there doing this.

if you ever do want to publish your fic, I'd be happy to help with the layout. I've been doing that for some Sweet Charity projects and think it would be a wonderful tribute to D.

ps. the story about the ebay fanzines is going viral - with some fans missing the point that your fic was taken off the net and printed and then resold without your permission. they think that all 700+ fanzines she's selling are unauthorized. some are reporting fanzines they see on eBay for copyright infringement. some think that all fanzines should be reported even if there is permission because selling fan fic is wrong. eeek.

Hey back

I'm sorry for taking so long in responding. I just got back from Comicon last night, went to work this morning and I am now on my lunch-break.

Yes, I do want to publish The Prometheus Project once Book 3 is finished and would love your help with the layout. That would be wonderful.

I'm a little over-whelmed by the ebay fanzine issue and how quickly it went viral but after this many years in fandom I should have expected this type of back-lash. There have been some more developments on the whole thing and I'd like to have an obejctive opinion on how to handle them. Would you mind being that objective eye? If you are, please contact me off-journal at rosewood@inreach.com and thank you so much for everything.

Hugs,

Ace

I'd love to help. we can also do this by phone (it may be easier than my typing) and we can also catch up. I'll e-mail you?

and last - your concerns were legit and - as I said to danceswithgary- you;re not responsible for the message becoming distorted - from 'there are un-permitted published fanzines, let's check this out" to
"everything doctor_beth2000 is selling is stolen, printed and put in a cheap binder with fanart without the knowledge or permission of the writer or artist" to people reporting legit fanzines without even bothering to verify.

If you actually do do a zine you should ask DancesWithGary if she'll do the cover for it. She does great covers.
